happiness physicalization

For Danielle Szafir's course, Information Visualization, five of us (Matilda Whitemore, Ben Galassi, Daniel Frost, Adam Siefkas, and myself) created a physical representation of data found in the 2016 World Happiness Report, released annually by the United Nations. The report contained data on 157 countries around the world. We visualized this data using an illuminated and interactive map so that the user could manipulate, explore and play with the data in order to analyze insightful relationships between global regions and attributes (which included economy, family, health, freedom, trust in government, and generosity) that contribute to a countries happiness. The map is 8x4 ft in size and the tallest bar is ~1ft tall.

This video describes how the visualization can be used, staring Ben Galassi.
